Final Stretch of My 7 Day Water Fast and Life Changing Lessons

I made it. Seven days of nothing but water, and what I discovered surprised me in ways I never could have imagined. This final stretch wasn’t just about discipline it was about resilience, clarity, and seeing just how far my body and mind could go. Hunger, temptation, travel, and celebrations tested me like never before, but each challenge revealed lessons I’ll carry with me forever. Here’s how the last days of my water fast unfolded and what I gained from pushing through.

Day 4: I was getting a weird cotton mouth feel and getting really tired of just water, but I wasn’t tempted to eat, although hungry. Energy was better than the day before, but still lower than normal. I was determined to go as long as possible and I was losing about 1.5 pounds a day, so that was motivating. Finally seeing the scale move was motivating. I have a great scale (Unique Health) that breaks down BMI, fat ratio, fat mass, muscle rate, and muscle mass, water ratio, protein ratio, visceral fat etc. So it gives a really good insight to what's going on. I was really tired of water by now and looking forward to eating again. I was surprised by how much energy I had for not having any food for 3 and a half days now. But I was taking it easy. I used my vibration plate which is great for lymphatic draining and circulation. Again, I kept reviewing the benefits of water fasting and was tracking what happens with each additional day of water fasting. I asked AI to give me a day-by-day that I could refer to often. Here’s that chart.

Day 5: Really, really tired of water by now. Energy was a little low but stable. This was a hard day because I had to assist a little in the kitchen with my meal-delivery service. So now I’m around food. However, I really wasn’t tempted by the cooked food, but the grapes and celery were really calling my name! So I quickly wrapped up and got out of the kitchen! This was my only real temptation, since I had pretty much avoided looking at food until this day. One of my friend’s knew I was doing the water fast so that evening she surprised me with a “water cocktail” hour, complete with fancy waters (sparkling and still) and special ice! I really loved that!

This was Friday evening, and I was planning on doing absolutely nothing the next day! Like literally staying in bed all day especially since energy was still low. However, plans changed. It was my twin brother’s milestone birthday that weekend. They were celebrating it together for the first time in years and really wanted me to be there. I was really contemplating not going since I was in the middle of this fast and low on energy. But it was a straight flight and less than hours, so I decided to go and not miss the celebration, since all of the rest of the family was going to be there too.

Day 6: I packed a light bag, and got on a plane the next day, a far cry from my plans to stay in bed all day. Honestly, I was feeling weak. And as I was walking to the Lyft, I was rethinking this idea, but fortunately by divine intervention, the Lyft driver met me at the lobby door and immediately took my bags, which made walking to the car a lot easier. I stayed hydrated and when I got to the airport I was feeling a bit better and had more energy, but Dulles is a huge airport and I didn’t know how long my energy was going to last. So I had requested a wheelchair when I made the flight arrangement just in case, and decided to use it. This was a smart move because it took at least 20-minutes to get to the gate including using the people mover and with no lines at security. I made it to the plane and went right to sleep for almost 2 hours, minus waking up for the beverage cart, water for me of course! I woke up energized and didn’t need any further assistance.

Once I got to my destination, I decided this was the last day of the fast, I needed energy to get through the weekend. So, I bought some green juice, Bubbies sauerkraut, coconut yogurt and avocado mash to break the fast. But the first 24 hours would be just green juice. I sipped a small amount of green juice while everyone else was having vegan chili dogs with all the fixins!! I stayed out of the kitchen, but man, that sucked!!

Day 7: Fast is officially over. Now I’m taking a few bites of sauerkraut coconut yogurt for the probiotics and a few bites of mashed avocado and green juice. Today is the birthday party and a lot of running around to get last minute items; my energy was coming back, but not fully, so I had to take it a little easy with the running around and sit down for a bit. So, the party begins… My brother ordered delicious vegan soul food (mac and cheese, veggie fried chicken, yams, collard greens), vegan cupcakes and my mom made her famous potato salad!! And I had none of it! Now that was challenging! Literally, all of my favorites! I drank green juice, coconut water and water, which was much better than just water though! I mostly stayed out of the kitchen and just focused on people and being present. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, besides I knew eating such rich foods right after a fast would probably cause significant gastrointestinal distress, so that helped keep me away from the party food.

What I Gained from My Water Fast

  1. Proof of Resilience – I learned my body can thrive without food far longer than I imagined.

  2. Food in Perspective – I broke the constant focus on eating and shrunk its role in my mind.

  3. True Hunger vs. Cravings – Now I can tell when my body actually needs food versus when I’m just bored or emotional.

  4. Gut Reset – After refeeding with probiotics, old cravings faded, and my digestion improved.

  5. Weight Loss Jumpstart – Finally broke through what felt like a stubborn set point.

  6. Hidden Discipline – Once I committed, I surprised myself with how far I could push.

  7. Healing Power – Water fasting is a simple but profound tool for recovery.

I’ll absolutely fast again, both longer stretches and short "tune-ups" to maintain the benefits.

Thanks for sharing this! I found the reflections on a 7-day water fast and the lessons learned along the way really interesting. It’s always interesting to hear about personal experiences and the changes they can bring. The idea of learning through a challenging journey reminded me of progressing through different adventures in Minecraft 1.22.

The challenge of a fast during a family birthday, especially with delicious food, really highlights dedication. It reminds me a bit of the tricky situations you find yourself in while playing Granny, trying to avoid being caught while pursuing your goal. Staying hydrated and making smart choices like requesting a wheelchair made the travel manageable, ensuring you could still celebrate.
