Improve your Health with 15 Minutes a Day! Top 5 Benefits of Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is one of the easiest methods of improving your health, taking just 15 to 20 minutes a day a few times a week. Oil pulling is a detoxification method done by swishing a tablespoon of oil (usually coconut or sesame oil) in the mouth for 15-20 minutes, then discarding. Oil pulling is an ancient practice that has roots in natural Ayurvedic medicine and Indian remedies. This incredibly simple technique is said to have many benefits, from whitening teeth and killing bad breath to boosting the immune system.
Oil pulling works by detoxifying the mouth by collecting oil-soluble toxins and increasing saliva production. Swishing the oil for a prolonged period breaks down the bacteria and draws it into the oil, cleansing the mouth and decreasing the toxin load. There are many reported benefits of oil pulling; five (5) of the top benefits are below.
Stops tooth decay and cavities
Gets rid of bad breath and improve gum health
Whitens teeth
Boost immune system and reduces inflammation
Improve acne and skin conditions
How to do it:
Oil pulling It best done first thing in the morning before eating or drinking.
Swish about 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. You can begin with shorter time intervals until you are comfortable with keeping the oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. I prefer to swish while showering; it helps to pass the time.
Use organic cold pressed coconut oil. It is recommended to use coconut oil rather than sesame oil, as sesame oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids and should be used sparingly. We generally consume more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 acids, causing an imbalance and systemic inflammation. Coconut oil is a healthier medium chain fatty acid that contains lauric acids which strengthens the immune system and caprylic acid which has anti-viral properties.
Discard the oil by spiting the oil in a trash bin. Discarding repeatedly in the sink will eventually clog your pipes. Do not swallow the oil as it contains the absorbed toxins.
Rinse your mouth with warm water afterward.
Brush your teeth as usual.
Repeat this process 3 to 5 times a week.
I recommend including this simple, yet effective, technique into your health regime: swish, spit, rinse!
